water

There is no way around it – swimming pools use a lot of water. However, there are some things you can do to conserve water while still enjoying your pool once the weather starts to warm up.

Use a Pool Cover

Over the course of a year, a pool without a cover can lose half of its water without a swimming pool cover. Using a cover regularly, even during swimming season, can reduce evaporation by up to 95%. Using a pool cover in the summer can save 7,000 gallons of water every summer.

Check for Leaks

Regularly inspect your pool for leaks.  Water- saturated soil near the pool can indicate that your pool is leaking water, which can lead to more water waste over time.

Lower the Water Level

Keeping the water level in your pool lower prevents water loss from splashing and playing. Try to discourage kids from splashing too much to keep the water in the pool.

Lower the Temperature of Heated Pools

If you have a heated pool, try to keep the temperature as low as possible during the summer months. This will prevent water from evaporating too quickly. Make sure your heater is turned off when the pool is not in use.

These are just a few tips you can use to conserve water this swimming season. In our next post, we will explore the topic even further. Valley Pool & Spa are your local experts on pools in the Pittsburgh area. Stop by one of our six locations or call 412-944-2441 for pool and hot tub service.
